Le territoire des pays baltes (la Lituanie, l’Estonie et la Lettonie) a été libéré par l’armée soviétique lors de l’Opération Bagration (23 juin - 29 août 1944) et l’Offensive de la Baltique (14 septembre – 24 novembre 1944). Lors de la libération plus de 255 200 soldats soviétiques ont été tués.
